Role of hormones
Oestrogen and progesterone are the central control hormones in the female cycle. Their fluctuations not only affect fertility, but also well-being, mood, skin appearance, hair structure and pain perception. Common symptoms of hormonal imbalances include painful menstruation, migraines, reduced performance, skin problems, etc.
- Irregular or painful menstruation
- PMS symptoms such as irritability, breast tenderness, water retention
- Migraines around ovulation or shortly before menstruation
- Mood swings, irritability or depressive moods
- Skin problems and hair loss
- Severe reduction in performance and often associated absence from work
Biohormones: to keep the cycle and hormone balance in equilibrium
A complex hormonal control loop
The female hormonal cycle and its phases
The Menstrual cycle is a complex hormonal regulatory cycle that takes place in several clearly defined phases and is controlled by the careful interaction of the hypothalamus, pituitary gland and ovaries.
Menstrual phase (day 1-4):
Follicular phase (until approx. day 14):
Under the influence of FSH, several follicles mature in the ovaries, one becomes the dominant follicle and produces oestrogen. Oestrogen rebuilds the lining of the uterus.
Ovulation phase (around day 14):
Luteal phase (day 15-28):
After ovulation, the follicle transforms into the corpus luteum, which primarily produces progesterone. This hormone stabilizes the mucous membrane and prepares it for possible implantation.
